Winter 2021 Newsletter

“Encouraging diverse groups with a passion for STEM to dream big and pursue their goals through scholarships, events, and education”.

Scholarships Update

The Green Girls STEM Foundation is happy to announce that we will be providing two $1000 scholarships in 2021 to college students and high school seniors seeking degrees in STEM. The first scholarship is centered around increasing diversity in any STEM area, while the second one focuses on increasing diversity in FIRST Robotics programs. We started collecting applications in January of 2021 and our first deadline is fast approaching in March and April.

Recently, GG STEM Foundation has reached out to scholarship social media accounts to spread the word about our applications. In February, we were featured in an interview with @scholarshipmoneyforstudents a page with over 14k followers (See picture below)! We hope to receive as many applications as possible from qualified candidates this year, so please forward these applications to students you think play an active role in diversifying STEM!

Fundraising

The foundation has raised $2300 this past year through virtual fundraisers including GoFundMe and various social media platforms. We are currently promoting our 2021 scholarships so we can get this money in the hands of deserving students. We are always accepting donations via PayPal and our Redbubble Store is open. We look forward to hosting virtual fundraising events this upcoming year.

Video Collaboration With The Designosaurs

We recently discovered that the Designosaurs, a Minnesota FTC team, also has a Youtube channel where they post fun STEM activities and lessons for kids. One important aspect of our mission as a foundation is to connect and give back to the FIRST community. So, we decided to out to the Designosaurs to make two collaboration videos, one for each of our channels. We thought that it would be a great way for both groups to learn from each other while also producing amazing videos. We met with them to develop our two videos, one on building constraints and one on the science behind snow. We tied each of the videos together by including the Designosaurs character King Woodith. Not only does this help direct viewers to each other’s channels it also increases engagement and makes the videos more enjoyable. Members from our board and the Designosaurs participated in the filming and editing of both videos. One of the videos has been completed but we are still working on the other one. We will be posting the videos together and posting about the videos on all our social media pages. Keep an eye out for our upcoming collaboration videos!
